At Design for Living Recovery Services

We work with our client to develope a personalized recovery formula that helps our clients overcome their additive behaviors.

Develop the plan for treatment

Once the assessment and evaluation phases are complete, that information is utilized to develop an individualized treatment plan for the client.  It is our policy here at Design for Living for the client to be included in each phase of his treatment plan development, focusing on the core issues.  Once the intake process if finished, the client is taken through an orientation process, introduced to their individualized program, and begin the road to recovery.

Execute the plan

The plan begins on an educational level.  Here we teach the client different tools to keep in their "recovery toolbox," along with instruction and guidance on how to select and utilize those tools in everyday life.  We aid in the self discovery process, teaching them how to recognize the emotional, psychological and behavioral triggers which can and will lead to their substance abuse.  These skills are referred to as "relapse prevention."

The next step is to learn how to deal with the various types of relationships in their lives.  Clients are guided and encouraged to develop skills that offer new ways to handle the relationships they return to after treatnent and/or

the new relationships they develop and become

involved in, thus, preventing frustration, anxiety or

anger which can cause them to go back to drinking or

using.

Modify the plan for treatment

As the client progresses through the program other issues and problems surface, manifesting themselves in emotional, psychological or behavioral conflicts.  At that time we utilize different sets of evaluations to help the client gain insight into these new situations as we work on modifying the client's treatment plan in relationship to the emerging issues.

Recovery Process

Each individual personality is different thereby bringing a host of complicated problems with them into the treatment process.  Some of the problems will reveal themselves at various stages of the treatment process and through various domains of the human character; such as: developmental, relational, psychological, emotive, spiritual, or behavioral.  Each of these characteristics will exact an emotional and psychological cost on the individual in need of treatment.  The recovery process depends on the individual’s history.  Therefore it is clear to perceive that the recovery time that is required for each individual will be assessed by the individual and their counselor as the problem emerges.

Most people love the fast, shipshape solutions to their chemical dependency problems.  In dealing with drug and alcohol dependence, it has become increasingly clear that there is no such thing as get-well-quick therapy. There has been convincing evidence that the longer the treatment, the chance of permanent sobriety is greater.  There are cases where 30 days in treatment has been sufficient for an individual to break the connection to drugs and alcohol and to make a clean start.  However, this is best for those who have no history of relapse or previous treatment programs.

Reevaluation

After the first 30 days, we meet with the client and reevaluate the treatment plan.  We use an honest and factual assessment of where they are in the recovery process, as well as using the client's input.  In addition, we take all this information in relation to the potential  for relapse and determine if additional treatment is recommended.

The Next Phase of Recovery, 30 Days and Beyond

For those that continue on after the first 30 days, the client begins a more intense phase of recovery. Here we dig deeper into family and individual core issues.

The first phase (first 30 days) is the educational phase.  The second phase is psycho-therapeutic based treatment. This is where we begin to deal with the deep-core issues of self-esteem, family relationships, and other related issues.  During this phase of the client's development, we have an opportunity to see and measure how much  the client understands and practices what they have learned in their day to day living and interaction with staff and other clients.

Effective Functional Stage

This is the final phase.  Here the client and staff measure the effectiveness, functioning, and progress the client had made.  At this point we prepare them to exit and return to societyIn this stage, we look at work issues, potential relapse triggers, and reuniting with family and friends. We help each client make connections for the development of a basic support system.  Together the client and staff, as a team, structure a plan to help the client adapt to their new "design for living."

Graduation

Once the client has met all the requirements, have been sober for 30-90 days, and have learned the tools of recovery and how to apply them to there lives, they are now ready to face the outside world once again. Upon completion a small intimate ceremony is held for the the clients' family and friends.

Aftercare

Our aftercare program is very simple. We recommend that our clients stay connected to the recovery point (Design for Living Recovery Services) until they find a support group of their own. Until they find a group, we recommend the following: For the first month or two, call us twice a week; the third month - once a week, and then on an as needed basis, or until they have settled into a support group they are comfortable with.
